- 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
- 3 pounds yellow onions, halved lengthwise and thinly sliced crosswise
- 1 teaspoon coarse salt
- 2 tablespoons white wine vinegar
- 1/3 pound bacon, chopped
- 1 1/2 cups mayonnaise
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1/4 cup safflower oil
- 3 shallots, thinly sliced into rings
