  • 2 teaspoons cream of tartar
  • 3 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ground cardamom (preferably freshly ground, or at least fresh)
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, melted and cooled
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cardamom (for cookie coating)
