This old-fashioned dessert, which originated at New York City’s Delmonico’s restaurant to commemorate the United States’ purchase of Alaska in 1867, has become popular again, and why not? An ice-cream cake covered with an igloo of meringue emerging



INGREDIENTS

  • Nonstick cooking spray
  • 6 tablespoons sugar
  • 3 large egg yolks
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 3 ounces bittersweet chocolate, melted and cooled
  • 3 large egg whites, room temperature
  • Pinch of salt
  • 4 1/2 pints chocolate ice cream
  • 3 pints vanilla ice cream
  • 1 pint coffee ice cream
  • 1/4 cup chocolate sprinkles
  • Swiss Meringue
