Heavenly Apple Cake

INGREDIENTS

• 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
• 1/2 cup melted sweet butter
• 2 cups unbleached, all purpose flour
• 2 eggs, lightly beaten
• 4 cups slightly tart apples: peeled, cored and roughly chopped
• 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
• 3/4 teaspoons salt
• 1/2 to 3/4 cup chopped dates
• 2 cups white sugar
• 2 teaspoons baking soda
• Icing sugar for decoration
• 1/2 to 3/4 cup apple brandy (or Calvados)
