DESCRIPTION

Since fresh sardines are often hard to find, we used mackerel for this delightful Variation on the Sicilian pasta con le sarde (pasta with sardines). If you're in a hurry, however, you can revert to sardines--the canned kind. They're surprisingly good here.



INGREDIENTS

  • 1/4 cup golden raisins
  • 2 tablespoons hot water
  • 3/4 pound spaghetti
  • 7 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 pound mackerel fillets
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon fresh-ground black pepper
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 1/4 cup pine nuts
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh dill
