Ground cardamom adds soothing aroma and unique flavor to this classic crumb-cake recipe from reader Suzanne Shuey in Shippensburg, Pa. If you don't like cardamom, you can substitute ground ginger or cinnamon.



INGREDIENTS

  • nonstick cooking spray
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour (spooned and leveled)
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon coarse salt
  • 3/4 cup (1 1/2 sticks) unsalted butter
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 2 large eggs, lightly beaten
  • 1/3 cup sour cream
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 3/4 teaspoon ground cardamom
  • 1 teaspoon finely grated lemon zest
  • 2 cups fresh berries, for serving
