DESCRIPTION
This yeast dough is simple to make, but it needs to rise for about three hours total (before and after cutting into rounds), so plan accordingly.
INGREDIENTS
- 1/4 cup warm water (about 110 degrees)
- 1/2 cup sugar, plus a pinch
- 1 package active dry yeast (1 scant tablespoon)
- 1 1/4 cups milk
- 3/4 cup (1 1/2 sticks) unsalted butter, melted and cooled, plus more for bowl and plastic wrap
- 2 1/2 teaspoons salt
- 2 large eggs, lightly beaten, plus 1 egg for glaze
- 4 1/2 to 5 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting
- 1 tablespoon water
- 1 tablespoon poppy seeds
