- ½ cup yellow cornmeal
- ½ cup all-purpose flour
- ¼ teaspoon baking soda
- ¾ teaspoon kosher salt
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- ¾ cup buttermilk
- 1 egg
- Vegetable or canola oil, for frying
- Salt, to taste
