• 1/2 cup butter, cut into pieces
• 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
• 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
• 1 teaspoon baking soda
• 1 pinch salt
• 1 cup buttermilk
• 1 egg, lightly beaten
